GPS fleet tracking starts with a dot on a map and ends somewhere else entirely: with a decision you make faster and with more confidence than your competitor. Which vehicle takes the urgent job. We have been deploying telematics for eight years on the Wialon platform, across more than 500 fleets and over 10,000 vehicles. Here is what you get and how the path from first conversation to working system looks.
What GPS fleet tracking covers
Real-time location. Position for every vehicle to better than two metres, updated continuously. Multi-constellation GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou) holds up in dense urban areas where older devices lost the signal between buildings.
Trip history. A complete record of journeys: route, speeds, stops, engine hours. We keep twelve months as standard — enough to settle a customer complaint or reconstruct an incident from six months ago.
Geofencing. Entry and exit zones: depots, customer warehouses, construction sites, restricted areas. Every crossing produces an event you can turn into an alert or a billing report.
Operational alerts. SMS and email notifications: speeding, leaving a zone, driving outside working hours, device power disconnection, excessive idling.
Reports. Mileage, driver hours, vehicle utilisation, driving style, cost per 100 km. We configure reports around the way you bill, not the other way round.
Matching hardware to vehicles
The most common mistake when choosing a tracking system is one device model for an entire mixed fleet. A delivery van, an articulated truck and a delivery scooter have completely different installation constraints and different data available.

Connectivity comes either way: a SIM from us (1NCE or a Polish carrier) or your own corporate SIM, which we simply provision in the device.
Why Wialon
Wialon is Gurtam’s telematics platform, used in more than 150 countries. We chose it because it offers three things closed hardware-vendor systems do not:
- Independence from the hardware maker. Over 4,000 device models are supported. Changing supplier does not mean migrating the whole system and losing history.
- An open API. Data flows into your ERP, TMS or warehouse without an intermediary — covered in more depth on our Wialon integrations page.
- Honest billing. You pay per active unit rather than for a feature bundle you use a quarter of.
We work in three variants: Wialon Hosting (SaaS, fastest to deploy), Wialon Platform (self-hosted, white-label) and GPS-Trace for very small fleets.
How a rollout runs
Step 1 — fleet audit (1–2 days). We list vehicles, types, available buses and what you actually want to measure. Half the original wish list usually falls away at this stage, and that is a good outcome: there is no point paying for data nobody will read.
Step 2 — platform configuration (48 h). Accounts, permissions, geofences, report templates, alert scenarios. Done before installation, so the first vehicle lands in a finished structure.
Step 3 — installation. We schedule so vehicles come off the road one at a time. OBD and two-wire trackers can be fitted by your own staff or our partner; FMS installations always go to a certified workshop.
Step 4 — calibration and handover (2–4 weeks). The first weeks are calibration: alert thresholds, sensor correction, tuning reports against reality. Only after that period is the data fit for billing and for conversations with drivers.
Step 5 — ongoing support. Support with a 24-hour response, configuration reviews and report changes as your processes change.
Compliance: GDPR and the Labour Code
Monitoring company vehicles is legal in Poland but comes with formalities. In practice you need three things: a lawful basis and purpose for processing under Article 6 GDPR; the rules written into work regulations or a formal notice, with employees informed at least two weeks before go-live; and visible marking of the monitored vehicles.
Private journeys are a separate question. Where the company allows personal use outside working hours, we configure a private mode — the fact of the trip and its distance are recorded, but not the route. That is a standard part of the rollout, not an extra.
